Flat Stanley's blog, Monday Sep. 12

Hi!  Stanley here!  Let me tell you about my trip.  I've been hanging out with the old folks.  Had some fun climbing trees, picking fruit and talking to the animals.  The unflat people still have some of my plums left.  They really like them, and I picked a lot.

Yesterday they did the city tour of Ankara and went to a famous museum of Anatolian history.  Anatolia is the Asian part of Turkey, sometimes called Asia Minor.  This is 98% of the land of Turkey; only 2% is in Europe.  Even Istanbul is split between the 2 continents.  Grandma and I considered swimming laps between Europe and Asia, but there was too much boat traffic.  We rode in a boat on the Bosphorus, which is 32 km long and averages 1 1/2 km. wide.

Well, so about this museum--they were busy looking at little things in glass cases so I had to invent some adventures.  First I found out that the old Romans recycled their statues of important people by cutting off the statue heads and putting new heads to represent new people on the old statues.  Saved time and money.  So they have a lot of headless statues.  I've been worried about this because my flat neck is getting weak, and I  may be headless myself.  I'll show you some statues and one where I put my own head on a headless statue.

Then there were some war scenes.  The Hittites were fighting against Ramses II of Egypt.  I joined in to fight with the Hittites since the Egyptian guy was already done for.  The fighting resulted in the first written peace treaty in history.
Then I rode a lion--lots better than glass cases.
Also Ive been busy eating and drinking coffee (I like the Turkish kind best).  And of course FLAT bread!!!

Finally above you see the really really really big statue of a soccer player near our campground in Ankara.  I hope he's on my team!!!
Well, thanks for reading my blog,.  I'm having a good time (even with the old folks) and learning a lot.
We are in a part of Turkey called Cappadocia, or Kapadokya.  I like their spelling.  BTW school started in Romania on Sept 12. and in Turkey it will start on Sept. 19.  Bye for now, Stanley

  1. Nice report, Stan. Try some scotch tape for your neck problems. Keep an eye on the non-flat ones. Make sure they get into at least a little bit of trouble.
